Set in an alternate reality of the 1920s, Scythe is a 4X strategy game for 1 to 5 players (expanded to 7 players with the "Invaders from Afar" expansion).
In a time of farming and war, each player represents a character from one of five Eastern European factions, who are trying to earn fortune and claim their stake in the land surrounding the mysterious "Factory".
Each player starts with different resources (power, money, combat, and popularity), a different starting position, and a secret objective. The factions have different abilities and characteristics, and the starting positions of each player are calibrated to contribute to the game's asymmetric nature and the uniqueness of each faction.
To reduce waiting time between turns and ensure that the game flows at a steady pace, Scythe uses a dynamic and nimble action selection mechanism that allows players to save time and enjoy the game at all times.
Scythe offers players nearly complete control over their destiny. Aside from each player's secret objective, the only elements of luck are the encounter cards, which players will gain as they interact with citizens of newly explored lands, and the combat cards, which have a minimal impact on player decisions, leaving randomness in the background.
