Carcassonne: Hills and Sheep is a new expansion for Carcassonne. In this expansion, players can become shepherds of the hills and earn points by creating the best pastures, although they must avoid the dangerous wolf that lurks around the flocks. This 2014 expansion was designed by Klaus-Jürgen Wrede, the mastermind behind the entire Carcassonne universe.
This expansion introduces a new type of occupation for the players' meeples. In addition to the classic options, they can now be shepherds of the hills. By placing tiles from this expansion, players will build hills and vineyards, trying to create the best pastures for their flocks while keeping an eye out for the fearsome wolf.
When a hill is placed on the board, its tile is placed over an existing one. These hills act as tiebreakers; if two or more players share the majority in a city, road, or field, the one with a follower on a hill will win the tiebreak. Carcassonne: Hills and Sheep adds a new level of depth to the game, creating different altitude levels on the board, and players can benefit from these different heights to improve their scores.
